The League of Women Voters of Dakota County is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences policy through education and advocacy. LWV Dakota County registered voters at numerous locations throughout Dakota County on National Voter Registration Day, September 26, 2017. We wish to thank all of our volunteers and each of the local organizations and businesses that allowed us to use their space!
LWV Dakota County hosted a forum titled The State of Health Care: Successes and Challenges, Possible Changes on the Federal Level, Health Care Legislation in Minnesota. The event was held June 1, 2017 at Nativity Episcopal Church in Burnsville.
Presenters included Sen. John Marty, author of the Minnesota Health Plan, Andy Slavitt, former Acting Administrator for CMS/Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP, Scott Keefer, V.P. of Public Affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Dr. Cindy Firkins Smith, past President of the Minnesota Medical Association and the Minnesota Dermatological Society, Dr. Dimitri Drekonja, Infectious Disease Staff Physician at Minneapolis VA Medical Center, and moderator Mike McIntee, documentary film-maker, journalist, and AM950 radio host.
