Observer Corps Report - 5/21/2019 Dakota County Special General Gov't & Policy Committee Meeting

Updated: Jun 10, 2019

Observer Corps reports are submitted by LWV Dakota County members that volunteer their time to observe and take notes at government meetings of interest to Dakota County residents. While we strive for accuracy, these observations may be incomplete or inaccurate in some respects.

Agenda

Additional Meeting Materials

Minutes Meeting Summary: The meeting consisted largely of a legislative update regarding bills before the legislature concerning transportation, capital investment, taxes, the Health and Human Services budget, state government, legacy funds, the environment and natural resources, and housing.

A map of the Met Council Impact Footprint was discussed. Potential topics for a June 11 discussion with Met Council members were discussed. Those topics include housing and shelter, transportation and transit, parks and trails, and comprehensive land use planning. County Commissioners are scheduled to have lunch with Met Council members on June 11 prior to the Board's Housing Workshop. It isn't clear whether these topics will be discussed over lunch or whether Met Council members will be in attendance at the Housing Workshop. Some commissioners expressed frustration regarding their individual conversations with Met Council members. Partnership between the Met Council and local government appears to be weak in their minds. Commissioners want stronger advocacy on the Met Council's part. The Board does not believe they are being heard adequately. The Board's lobbyist weighed in on the frustrating Legislative Session. The Dakota County delegation needs to be contacted regarding specific legislative concerns. Also, issues with repairs and ongoing maintenance and ADA compliance issues at the Historical Society were addressed.
